After an early morning run to the waterfront - cold, and the laundromat, the monks served a bigger breakfast than yesterday (if possible). We have not had to bother with lunch. Back downtown on the L train and tried to find the Jewish museum for something different but no luck. Today is first day of snow in Chicago for the season. Went to the Art Institute and saw some miniature art - replicas of period homesteads and furnishings no bigger than a shoe box -and Dave saw three rooms of Monet and millions of renaissance religious art. Emily saw the gift shop. Off to Millennium Park and the kids went ice skating on the public rink - now we really feel like we are in America for Xmas......Having some time out and a cup of tea before heading to dinner at Eleven City Diner which is Jewish so we can try something different we don't get at home. Many pictures to post but need to wait until we are somewhere with constant internet, so stand by....
Dumb moments of the trip:
Lauren has confused Fahrenheit and fan-forced for the second time this week
Mike in Starbucks - "so where do you think they keep the WiFi?"....
.
- Mike and Dave
Hey, Lisa, why didn't you and Mike have a go at ice-skating?
ReplyDeleteWe were the bag holders, plus didn't want to break a leg this early in the trip - need a bit more practice first I think, haven't skated since high school!

Hey guys, Trish and I love reading the posts each night. It sounds like you are getting a nice introductory taste of cultural Americana. Am picturing Will at Macquarie Ice rink and freaking out. FINGERS! Mike, FYI - Starbucks WIFI is always kept beside the vanilla bean scones. I understand your uncertainty as we practically trip over the damn thing on entry to establishments here in Australia. Strange, but it's behind the counter so you have to request it. Hmmmmm, I am predicting this quote will take out the "dumbest moment" prize by touchdown into Queensland. Mike, I think you may have peaked too soon, although who knows what the other players may have in their hands.
